Thanks for the advice, but
Seems as if my trip to Memphis has been cancelled. I'm really disappointed and I feel pretty stupid right now.
Is it really worth any of this?

Yes, it is worth it. This is a VERY tough job market for academics right now. Things you might want to do:
Take long walks outside
Clean out your closet/garage (always good when you're in a snit)
Bitch to friends
Things you don't want to do:
Drink excessively
Eat immoderately
Give up
